Two Livingston Dems Running for Leadership Posts

A pair of young Democrats from Livingston County are running for leadership posts in the Michigan Democratic Party.

Christian Alvarado of Howell is running for vice chair of Young Democrats of Michigan and Paul Giessner of Marion Township is running for secretary of the group. Both are part of the YDM Future Slate.

Election of the group’s leaders will take place at the Michigan Democratic Party’s statewide convention on Saturday, Feb. 11, at Huntington Place, Detroit. At their Jan. 26 county convention, Livingston County Democrats unanimously passed a resolution supporting the election of Alvarado and Giessner. The resolution states:

“WHEREAS Young people bring energy and new ideas to any organization, and

“WHEREAS The future of our nation and of the Michigan Democratic Party depend on the continued and increasing involvement of young people in the political process, and

“WHEREAS joining the Young Democrats of Michigan is an important way for young voters to learn about the political process and to become politically active, and

“WHEREAS the Young Democrats of Michigan will elect new officers at the Feb. 11 Michigan Democratic Party Convention, and

“WHEREAS Christian Alvarado has been involved in Michigan Democratic politics since 2017, was electoral director of the Young Democrats in 2019, is a member of the Michigan Democratic Party State Central Committee, and is a member of the Livingston County Democratic Party Executive Committee, and is now running for vice chair of Young Democrats of Michigan on the YDM Future Slate, and

“WHEREAS Paul Giessner was actively involved in the One Campaign for Michigan in Livingston County during 2022, knocked on more than 1,000 doors during the campaign, manages the party’s website, was elected to the Livingston County Democratic Party Executive Committee, and is now running for secretary of Young Democrats of Michigan on the YDM Future Slate, and

“WHEREAS Livingston County Democrats would be proud to have two of its members leading this exciting organization for young Democrats,

“THEREFORE, LET IT BE RESOLVED that Livingston County Democrats wholeheartedly endorse Christian Alvarado for vice chair and Paul Giessner for secretary of Young Democrats of Michigan.”
