Livingston Dems are excited to announce that a nationally-known figure will be the guest speaker at our 42nd annual Winans Dinner!

State Sen. Mallory McMorrow serves in the Michigan Senate, but was catapulted to national prominence after Sen. Lana Theis accused her of “grooming” children. McMorrow's fiery response declaring, “We will not let hate win!” went viral and launched her to national prominence.

New York Magazine called the speech “remarkable.” James Carville said it was “enormously effective.” The Atlantic wrote that it was “stunning.” Now McMorrow is a candidate for the Democratic nomination for the U.S. Senate seat being vacated by Democrat Gary Peters.

McMorrow will be the keynote speaker at our dinner on May 31 at Lakelands Golf and Country Club, 8760 Chilson Rd., Hamburg Township. Tickets are $100 until May 9 so order now. Tickets are available here.

Also speaking will be Rep. Jennifer Conlin and Michigan Democratic Party Chair Curtis Hertel. The event includes a 6 p.m. social hour with cash bar and snacks; sit-down dinner at 7 p.m. including dessert; 50-50 raffle, and online silent auction.

After Googling “how to run for office” in the wake of the 2016 election, Mallory McMorrow took on an incumbent Republican State Senator and won, moving the seat 20 percentage points. After her viral speech, Mallory used her newfound platform to help flip control of the Michigan Senate for the first time in 40 years, becoming the first woman Senate Majority Whip in state history. She has worked to strengthen unions and raise wages, eliminate the retirement tax on seniors, expand civil rights, repeal the state’s 1931 abortion ban, tackle gun violence, expand affordable housing, and feed kids in schools.

Mallory is running for US Senate to cut through the performative nonsense, stand up to Trump, and work every day to protect our rights and freedoms and give hardworking Michiganders what they need to succeed. She recently released her first book, HATE WON’T WIN. She lives with her husband, Ray, and daughter, Noa, in Royal Oak, Michigan. Go online to mcmorrowformichigan.com to learn more.

Representative Conlin represents the 48th House District, which includes northern Washtenaw County as well as the townships of Hamburg and Genoa, part of Putnam Township, and the village of Pinckney in Livingston County.

Curtis Hertel is a former state senator who was elected to be chair of the Michigan Democratic Party in February.

The dinner is the party’s biggest event of the year. If you are unable to attend, you can show your support with a patron ad, listing your name in the program. Information is here.
