Livingston County Democrats will hold their post-election convention on Thursday, Nov. 17, to elect members of our new executive committee. The convention will be at Re/MAX Platinum Auditorium, 6870 Grand River, between Brighton and Howell. Registration will begin at 6:30 p.m. and continue until 7 p.m.
Delegates to the convention shall be the Precinct Delegates who were duly elected at the Primary Election held August 2, 2022, the Democratic nominees for County and Legislative offices as set forth in section 3.2.2 of the MDP bylaws, and members of the Michigan Democratic Party whose membership was renewed at least thirty (30) days prior to the convention, which is Oct. 18.
Precinct delegates, Democratic elected officials and Democratic nominees to partisan offices are exempt from the thirty (30) day advance membership requirement. However, Precinct Delegates, Democratic elected officials and Democratic nominees to partisan offices must be a member of the MDP. Former members of the MDP whose membership has lapsed in the thirty (30) days preceding any Convention, Caucus, or meeting of any unit of the MDP may renew their membership on the day of the Convention, Caucus, or meeting and shall be permitted to vote.
Under rules adopted by the Livingston County Democratic Executive Committee, those individuals exempt from the 30-day requirement must renew by noon, Nov. 17, and email their ActBlue receipt or copy of their paper membership form to Membership Chair Cathy Lamerton at calamerton@ameritech.net by noon that day.
The party will be electing 40 people to the new executive committee, joining 20 people who are automatically members because they were Democratic nominees for office. The executive committee will run party affairs for the next two years. The executive committee will hold its first meeting immediately after the convention. Convention delegates are encouraged to stay for the meeting.
