Every year, Livingston Dems hold a food drive to benefit Gleaners Community Food Bank, raising enough money and nonperishable food to provide thousands of meals around the holidays.
This year’s food drive has added urgency.
The Trump regime is choosing to let people go hungry during the Republican shutdown of the government. Trump could use emergency funds to continue SNAP benefits, but so far hasn't done so despite court orders. That leaves 1.4 million Michigan residents without SNAP benefits as of Nov. 1.
We can help fill the gap for our friends and neighbors by donating to our annual food drive for Gleaners Community Food Bank.
Livingston Dems have set an initial goal of $2,000, but we can raise the goal as soon as we hit that mark!
You may donate on line here https://fooddrives.gcfb.org/event/2025-livingston-county-democratic-party-virtual-food-drive/ , or bring cash, a check made out to Gleaners Community Food Bank, or nonperishable food to the Livingston Dems' office, 8028 Grand River, Woodland Plaza Suite 7, Brighton, between noon and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can also mail your check to our office.
Gleaners says the most needed food items are canned chicken, canned tuna, canned beans, peanut butter, protein drinks, low-sodium soups, canned vegetables, oatmeal, and healthy cereal.
Gleaners is an extremely efficient organization because it buys in bulk. It converts every $1 donated into 3 meals, far better than we as individuals can do. If you want to donate specific items, you can "shop" for items you'd like to donate at Gleaners' prices here. https://fooddrives.gcfb.org/shopping/
Besides operating its distribution center in Howell, Gleaners also supplies food pantries throughout Livingston County and operates mobile food distribution sites each month.
Please be as generous as you can. Our friends and neighbors are depending on us.
