Giving season is here!
“While we rush to buy things to give to our friends and family this holiday season, let’s remember to give something to those who may be struggling right now. One of the best ways to do that is to give to the Livingston Dems’ annual drive for Gleaners Community Food Bank,” said Judy Daubenmier, chair of the Livingston County Democratic Party.
Last year, the party donated the equivalent of 10,000 meals to Gleaners in cash, checks, and non-perishable food. The party has doubled its goal this year. Gleaners has tremendous buying power so they can make your donation go farther. For example, the retail price of a gallon of milk might be $2.24, but Gleaners pays only 80 cents. And the retail price of chicken is $2.29 a pound, but Gleaners needs to spend just $1.30. You can learn more about Gleaners and make a donation to the Livingston Dems’ drive here.
The website even allows you to pick which items you would like to donate virtually.
“Giving to Gleaners is a smart way to stretch your donation to do the most good for the most people,” Daubenmier said. As a food bank, Gleaners supports food pantries throughout Livingston County and holds free food giveaways at several locations around the county every week.
“Compassion for others who are in need is a core Democratic value. This food drive is a great way to put that value into action. When we give as Democrats, we remind people that we are here and that Democrats care. Please be as generous as you can for our neighbors in need,” Daubenmier said.
If you prefer not to donate on-line, donations may be dropped off at party headquarters, 8028 Grand River, Suite 7, Brighton, between noon and 2 p.m. Monday through Friday. The drive runs through Dec. 21.
