A lifelong county resident with experience in programs for senior citizens is seeking a spot on the Iosco Township board of trustees.
Cherie Mollison, whose ancestors began farming in Iosco Township in 1836, says her deep roots in the township “gave me a real concern for the well-being of neighbors and friends. I miss public service and believe township trustees can help their communities. I think my background and experience can be of use on the board.”
Cherie is the first Democrat to run for a township seat in Iosco Township in this century.
As a trustee, Cherie said her priorities would be obtaining rural broadband; road maintenance; monitoring the safety of the pipeline running through the township; being sensitive to the needs of local farmers; protecting wildlife habitat while still promoting growth in the township, and finding public and private resources to support those initiatives.
Cherie, who is running on the Democratic Party slate, filed her nominating papers on March 10, 2020.
Cherie has more than 35 years of experience working with state, regional, and local officials and agencies helping seniors and their families. She worked for the Michigan Office of Services to the Aging from 1986 to 2009 where she was director of planning and program development. Her staff worked to build programs dealing with senior transportation and housing, the Medicare Medicaid Assistance Program, nursing home long term care ombudsman, and legal assistance for seniors, including the statewide 1-800 Legal Hotline.
From 2009 to 2014 she worked as a contractor with The Senior Alliance Area Agency on Agency serving all of Wayne County outside of the City of Detroit. She worked on an innovative program to keep seniors from bouncing in and out of hospitals, saving Medicare millions of dollars and judged one of the best in the country. Another program Cherie worked on targeted military veterans of all ages who needed assistance to stay in their own homes. The TSA board she worked with included county commissioners, township officials, local service vendors, and non-profit agencies.
Cherie graduated from Fowlerville High School and has a bachelor’s degree from Michigan State University and a master’s in public administration from Western Michigan University.
She has been active in Friendly Neighbors Kings Daughters service club; Torch 180 in Livingston County, which trains adults with disabilities to work in food services, and was for many years on the board of Big Brothers Big Sisters in Livingston County.
Cherie is married to Bill Mollison, who runs a small business in Fowlerville. They have lived in Iosco Township for 30 years. They have a foster son, Chuck, who is an Iraq War veteran, and hosted four Rotary exchange students who also attended Fowlerville Community Schools.
