Abdul El-Sayed, a physician-turned-progressive politician, will speak at the next meeting of the Blue Ideas Book Club.
El-Sayed will discuss his book, Healing Politics: A Doctor's Journey into the Heart of Our Political Epidemic. The book both tells some of El-Sayed's personal story and prescribes solutions for our dysfunctional politics.

El-Sayed is a physician who took on the job of re-creating the Detroit Department of Public Health after it was eliminated during the city's bankruptcy. He succeeded in establishing a program to provide glasses for Detroit school children.
El-Sayed ran for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2018, losing to Gov. Gretchen Whitmer. He has gone on to become a television commentator for CNN.
