Have Questions About How Elections Work? Join Livingston Dems for “Election Education for Everyday People”!
American elections are safe and secure, but some voters still have questions about how elections are carried out.
If that’s you, join Livingston Dems for a presentation on “Election Education for Everyday People" by an elections specialist at our next monthly coffee.
Former East Lansing City Clerk Marie McKenna-Wicks will speak on the topic at the event on Monday, July 27, at Brighton District Library, 100 Library Dr., Brighton. The event begins at 6:30 p.m.
Marie has spent 25 years in the public/nonprofit sectors starting as an information and legislative coordinator for the Michigan Municipal League followed by a 14-year tenure with the City of East Lansing, first as assistant city manager and then in 2011 as the appointed city clerk.
Marie also worked for the Michigan Bureau of Elections as an Elections Specialist, traveling the state training county and local clerks.
Retiring “the first time” in 2019, Marie served as a precinct chair for the City of East Lansing for seven elections and staffed the satellite voting location for East Lansing from 2020-2022.
Marie “came out of retirement” to serve as East Lansing City Clerk for 2023-2024, overseeing groundbreaking work with the outstanding City Clerk Team.
She holds a bachelor’s degree in public law & government and a master’s degree in public administration, both from Eastern Michigan University.
A self-proclaimed “elections geek,” Marie works for Promote the Vote on ballot access. She was appointed in 2025 to serve on the Ingham County Board of Canvassers and acts as Secretary of the Michigan Democratic Party 7th Congressional District Board.
Marie resides in East Lansing with her husband Jon, a retired police officer, along with their cats Murray and Pixie. Marie is an avid knitter and has yet to meet a hobby, language, or craft that she did not like. She is blessed (or cursed depending upon where you sit) with the gift of gab and a decidedly wicked sense of humor.
There will be time for questions, as well as information on volunteer roles involving elections.
The party will provide snacks. Please bring your own beverage.
Please sign up here to let us know you are coming.
